By the Number: Facts and Statistics for Staffing Companies and Employees

There are only a few more months left in the year, but it doesn’t mean the economy has already reached its peak. Retail stores usually see their most considerable profits during the holiday season. Along with restaurants and the hotel industry, the end of the year tends to bring significant traffic to many companies. The staffing industry also sees tremendous movement during this time of the year. The staffing, recruiting, and workforce solutions industry is the bloodline of the U.S. economy. According to the American Staffing Association, the industry “provides outstanding job and career opportunities for nearly 15 million employees per year.”
Here are a few facts and statistics that have made 2017 and previous years a great time to align your brand with our industry.

Staffing Companies

There are about 20,000 staffing and recruiting companies in the U.S., which operate around 39,000 offices altogether. Approximately 55% of companies and 74% of offices are in the industry’s temporary and contract staffing sector.
Temporary and contract staffing sales totaled $128.5 billion in 2016, according to the latest annual data from the ASA Staffing Employment and Sales Survey—an increase of 1.7% over 2015.
Search and placement sales grew 2.6% in 2016, according to Staffing Industry Analysts.  Applying SIA’s yearly growth estimates to the most recent U.S. Economic Census benchmark indicates that search and placement sales totaled $21.9 billion in 2016.
Combining temporary and contract staffing with search and placement services, U.S.  staffing industry sales totaled $150.4 billion in 2016, 1.8% more than in 2015. Search and placement sales accounted for 14.5% of total staffing and recruiting industry sales in 2016, the largest share since 2007. -Source American Staffing Association.
