Moving to Miami from Out-of-State

There are many reasons why people choose to relocate from one state to the other. Sunny skies, great beaches, diverse culture, sumptuous cuisines, employment opportunities, and being closer to loved ones are reasons out-of-towners have made Miami their new home. Other reasons why people from out of state move to Florida include: no state income tax is a major perk, lower housing costs than many parts of the country, world-class beaches and outdoor entertainment, year-round warm weather, discounts to acclaimed local attractions. But no matter what the reasoning behind your move, we all end up running into the same logistical challenges.

For those of you who are in the predicament of moving to Miami from another state, here are a few answers to some questions that will surely help alleviate the headaches that usually come with the move.

Moving options

A lot of people who relocate to our city from another state tend to do the moving without professional help or movers. Though this choice is the cheapest, sometimes doing all the packing and moving yourself can surely put a hurting on the body, mind, and soul. Here are some other options you can choose.

Bekins Van Lines

Full-service moves include everything — packing, loading, driving, and unloading — so it’s common for it to be the most expensive. Though Bekins Van Lines is known for full-service moving, they also offer an option where customers can do their own packing to save money. They’ll perform in-home estimates for more accurate quotes or can give ballpark estimates online.

PODS

PODS is typically thought of as a middle-of-the-road option. A portable storage container is delivered to you, you load belongings inside, and they deliver it to the new location.

U-Haul

Truck rental is the most do-it-yourself option for a move to a new state. You pack, pick up the equipment, load the truck, drive it, unload it and return it.

U-Pack

U-Pack operates similarly to PODS in that you do the packing and loading and don’t have to drive. However, thanks to an efficient transportation network, U-Pack offers a broad coverage area and rates often comparable to truck rental.

Here are some steps you should take once you make your move:

  • Sign up for a Florida driver’s license or identification card.
  • Update car insurance to reflect your new address and register your car.
  • After the relocation process, you might need to file taxes in two different states if you have earned income in both places throughout the year.

Recently, U-Haul announced that Florida was amongst the top five states their customers are relocating to. Panama City, Kissimmee, Brandon, St. Cloud, Melbourne, Davenport, Boca Raton, Bradenton, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami are the popular Florida cities the moving company counted. These people are also coming from all parts of the US, including South America and Europe but no matter where you are coming, once you get settled in, you will definitely be happy you made the move to our wonderful city.
